Bhadohi Carpet Creates World RecordThe carpet city of Bhadohi has once again brought glory to India with its exceptional craftsmanship. A carpet manufactured in Bhadohi has entered the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest hand-tufted carpet, now adorning the Astana Grand Mosque in Kazakhstan — the largest mosque in Central Asia. The massive carpet spans 12,464 square meters, covering the mosque’s main prayer area. The project was undertaken by Bhadohi-based Patodia Contract Company, which secured the contract through a highly competitive international bidding process that also included firms from China and the United States.Work on the carpet began in 2021, with over 1,000 skilled artisans contributing their expertise. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the team completed the carpet in just six months, and installation in the mosque was finished within 50 days. The intricate design draws inspiration from the mosque’s gardens and elements of Jannat-ul-Firdaus (Paradise). Skilled artisans from Bhadohi also traveled to Kazakhstan to install the carpet. After installation, the company applied for recognition from Guinness World Records. Following several months of verification, the record was officially confirmed on October 7 during an online event, declaring it the world’s largest hand-tufted carpet. This remarkable achievement has filled Bhadohi’s carpet industry with pride and joy. The creators say the honor will further elevate Bhadohi and India’s identity in the global handicraft sector.
